head of the 2019 Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon (KEMM), the organizers, have launched “operation 1,000 participants” – a campaign to improve participation in the marathon.
The Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon, which is in its second year, is expected to attract at least 1,000 participants across the country, hence the decision to launch the campaign.
The campaign is expected to target all schools in the Eastern Region and Kwahu especially and across the country.
The event, which is in the second year, is already receiving massive attention from athletes and corporate bodies, is fixed for Saturday, April 20, from Nkawkaw to Abene, covering a distance of 42.2 kilometers.
Nana Obeng Akrofi Darte I, Mpraeso Baamuhene of Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC), who launched the event on Tuesday, disclosed this to the media.
“Our target is to get at least 1,000 participants to compete in this year’s event. We have learnt from the previous event and we are coming out better and bigger this year.
“It is for this reason that we involving all schools in Kwahu and Eastern Region to a large extent, as well as embark on intense outreach activities to boost participation.
“Our target is to get at least 1,000 participants to compete in this year’s event and we are not leaving any stone unturned to realise this target.
“We made a modest target of 500 last year but we did not realise that, due to some lapses on our part. We have corrected those mistakes and we are looking forward to great event,” he added.
The Kwahu Easter Mountain Marathon is an initiative of the Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC) and Medivents Consult.
