Kwahu Easter Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the history of Ghana. It attracts thousands of people from all walks of life each year during easter for merry making.
Over the years, events like street carnivals, jams, food bazar, and the famous paragliding have been part of the activties marking the festival.
In 2018, the Kwahu Traditional Council (KTC) as part of its efforts to introduce another event to add up to the list of high profile events marking the festival introduced the Kwahu Easter Marathon into the list of activities for the year.
Through a partnerhsip with event planners and managers, Medivents Consult, the first ever Kwahu Easter Marathon aslo known as the “Mountain Marathon” was staged on April 19, 2018.
Mathew Nantiere Vikuba, 22-year officer of the National Fire Service (NFS), emerged winner of the first race of 31-Kilometer, with a time of one hour, 56 minutes and 20 seconds.
Vikuba, also a student of Cape Coast University, had to fend off stiff competition from Ismael Arthur, William Amponsah, Ayamga Jonas and Seidu Salifu, who placed 2nd -5th with one hour, 59 minutes, two hours and three minutes, two hour and six minutes and two hour and 20 minutes respectively.
Nantiere, said in an interview after the race that, “we have participated in several marathons, but this mountain marathon being our first was a bit difficult, we had to endure more to make it through the curvy mountains because we had to climb the mountain for more than 30 minutes, which took a lot from us but it was worth it,” he stated.
The first ever “Mountain Marathon” was sponsored by Ghana Oil (GOIL), Kofikrom Pharmacy, StarTimes Ghana, Mafa Media, Mr Tours Ticket Travel and Tours and Medivent Consult.
